This is the season of parties for our family. My oldest daughter and her husband always throw big parties for their children as they grow a year older. We just added another birthday to the season. On October 4th, our daughter gave birth to a little boy. His birth actually prevented the birthday celebration of her oldest daughter from happening. Zachary was actually almost a month early. I foresee Hannah’s birthday never being quite the same again. Her birthday is on the 6th.
With all these parties comes pizza, cake and ice cream along with all the snacks. It’s really hard not to snack on all those goodies, especially when we are all sitting together in the family room. Watching others eat what I love to eat too is difficult.
We would have been having cake and vanilla pudding tonight for my 24 year old sons birthday, but he chose not to have it. I think I will instead make up some pudding parfaits just so we don’t totally not celebrate. The parfaits will be made with low fat milk so they aren’t all that bad. The whip topping isn’t a low fat one. I found the low fat foods actually add high fructose corn syrup which is terrible for us to consume. While no sweeteners are absolutely great for us, I would rather use real sugar and suffer less side effects than the substitutes.
I have also found that I am happy with just a small serving of dessert. I use to take the larger servings and was taught to always clean off my plate. Then even though I had eaten enough of the item, I still finished the serving to not waste. So much for burning fat. It did not happen.
Now Hannah’s party will be this next Saturday. Needless to say, only being 8 years of age, missing her special party of the year did not go over very well. Since I know that I am going to want to eat the pizza, chips, dip, ice cream and cake on Saturday, I have decided to take it easy on eating much that will not burn fat this week.
Right now as I am writing this blog article, I am eating a tuna fish sandwich with tomato and lettuce on it. I mixed my tuna with mayonnaise, which I am sorry to say I read it has high fructose corn syrup in it and it’s not even the light type. I use wheat bread, which now isn’t suppose to be all that great either, but better than crackers or potato chips. Without the bread, I would have eaten either the chips or crackers. Hopefully the tomato and the lettuce help balance out some of the bad in the sandwich. No matter what, I just ate some omega 3 which is good for my bones, my eyes, my heart and my brain. It was a good choice.
At night, I eat dinner and later my low fat yogurt. Low fat milk products generally aren’t loaded with sugar to make it taste better but I am not reading the label. My husband picks out our yogurt.
If I do good all week, then I can have my splurge day on Saturday. That sounds like a good fat burning plan to me. I will burn fat all day Sunday after enjoying a great day of not worrying about my diet on Saturday. I may even get some exercise to burn fat Saturday by jumping on their trampoline.Tags: old sons birthday, fat burning plan, fructose corn syrup, low fat foods
It’s Wednesday or many people call the hump day. Come tomorrow we are closing in on the weekend. If you are like most of us, our weekends are very different from our weekdays. I for one do not actually diet on the weekend. I have talked many times about doing a splurge day. How if you over eat one day, then diet the next how your metabolism will be higher the day after a splurge burning more fat the entire day. I have chosen to use my splurge day on the weekend. Most of the time I use it on Saturday. We typically do our grocery shopping and eat out on Saturday. That makes it a perfect day to splurge.
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on a diet to burn fat all week. That is why when Wednesday comes around, it gets a little exciting. I have made it through 3 complete days of burning fat and only have 3 more to go. Having a splurge day really makes it easier for me to get through those days when I really want something. I always tell myself, just wait, when Saturday gets here you can eat anything you want.
The funny thing about my splurge day is, I really don’t splurge. You go ahead and splurge and enjoy it, but I have retrained my thinking so much as to how I should eat that I don’t over do it even on my splurge day. I will usually have a snack while we watch a movie, treat myself a bit with some popcorn or apple pie and ice cream. I may even eat some corn chips and dip. Once Saturday gets here, and I know I can eat anything I want, I don’t really want it. The big thing is on Saturday and lots of times on Sunday too, I don’t tell myself I cannot have it.
Even though my splurge day isn’t a big splurge, it helps me get through the days when I am not splurging. Just having a day that you can eat that ice cream, chips, cake, or other treats helps you get through the other days you are dieting.
Without a splurge day, you would feel very deprived. Never allowed to eat something off your diet. The bad thing about that is, you tend to simply sneak the foods you are not allowed and maybe more often than you would if you allowed yourself a splurge day. Plus, you may not splurge enough to raise your metabolism the next day letting all that fat and calories you ate just turn to fat.
If you pick out the weekend as your time to splurge, then today is your hump day and you are half way there. If you work a schedule that doesn’t give you weekends off, then you may arrange your off day to be your splurge day. Then your hump day would fall on a different day.
It doesn’t matter when you schedule your splurge day, it’s only important that you do. Give yourself goals and a time for treats too. You may find this time you will stay on your diet to burn fat and it does.Tags: burning fat, splurge, big thing, mid week diet willpower, hump day, bad thing
Now that I have lost 20 pounds totally, that has been over a 2 year period, things seem to be getting a little easier. I find I can cheat a little more than I use to, but most of the time, I don’t want to.
It’s amazing how my cravings have changed. I use to love to drink soda pop, now I hate it. The diet stuff taste terrible. I have taken up drinking flavored water most of the time. I love the tea flavored type. I have one of those little containers that you squirt the flavor into your own glass of water. I don’t want to over use the bottled type. That just leads to pollution and wasted plastic. I also like to add a little of my fresh squeezed lemon to my drink. It’s really good.
Salads alone have become a bit boring, and they seem to be upsetting my stomach a little. I need to eat them with a meal which I do still enjoy. Eating a salad with my meal still helps me not over eat. Especially if I am really hungry. It’s best not to fill up your dinner plate when you are really hungry. I have done that before, then sat down to eat and saw how much food I had put on my plate. I couldn’t possibly eat all I took so I would put some back before starting to eat. Something one can do at home, but when eating out is more complicated.
When you are eating out, they always serve you far more food than you can eat. I found a good trick to keep myself from over eating is ask for the take home container when I order my meal. I love to eat chicken strips. It never fails I receive about 8 of them on my plate. So instead of dealing with having them all on my plate to eat and stopping when I am getting too full, I put 4 of them in my to go box right away. Then I also have a snack for later or tomorrows lunch.
I use to love french fries. Now it seems I am not enjoying them as much. They do smell good but like popcorn, they smell better than they taste. Instead of fries, I prefer to order a baked potato with sour cream only. That helps cut down on the bad oil that is in butter. My husband laughs at me though. I put butter on my hot bread they serve, but at least I have cut back on how much I am eating of it.
Burning fat is easier because I have changed the way I enjoy eating. The fruit I eat helps burn the fat I have eaten during the day too. It also helps me eat less at meals. That has been the difficult part of this whole diet thing. Knowing how much I really need to eat. I really need to find smaller dinner plates that don’t hold so much food. Believe it or not, that would make me eat less. I would see a full plate and the eyes can trick the stomach.
I never thought I would find out how to burn fat and lose weight so easy. I won’t say there aren’t days that I eat a lot of fatty foods. I do have the holidays coming up soon and birthday season just started. My next big hurdle will be the cake and ice cream I really enjoy. I won’t be alone on my journey through the season. Writing this blog for all of you to visit and learn how to burn fat or lose weight has really helped me maintain my diet. I will be writing still every week to let you know of my ups and downs on weight loss. I do hope that what I write remains positive.Tags: weight loss seems to be getting easier, weight loss, little containers, diet thing, smaller dinner plates
It is so discouraging when the scale stops showing the weight is dropping off. You are doing all the same things you have been doing for the past month or more, but there is no change showing.
It’s a time when your body is settling into your new weight. Everything is adjusting. At this time, taking measurements and checking out how different your clothing is feeling may show you that you are still burning fat. Some of the weight you lost to begin with was water weight. In fact, it could have been a big part of it. So maybe instead of getting depressed about not losing anymore weight, maybe we should be happy that we aren’t gaining.
Water weight changes through out the month for a woman. For a man, I am not sure. I never have heard a man complain about feeling bloated. If your clothing is feeling looser, and you are feeling over all better, then things are going in the right direction. You are still burning fat.
No matter what the scale says, keep on eating the foods and doing the work outs that got you started losing weight to begin with. Everyone hits a point several times during a program to burn fat that it seems nothing else is going to happen. It does make us lose a little of the excitement that we had when we could see the scale telling us we were losing weight everyday. Believe me, that excitement will return.
I am in my little time right now. The scale has been stuck on the same number for a few days now. Maybe that means, instead of starving myself thinking this just isn’t working. I am no longer burning fat so if I don’t eat, my body has no choice but to burn fat, I will eat. I will still eat wisely. I need my splurge day which I haven’t taken in a while. I didn’t want to take a chance of stalling the weight loss. I forgot for a minute that a splurge day will rev up my metabolism and maybe that is what I need.
If your weight loss stalls, then take a look at what you are doing. If it is a good plan and you aren’t veering off of it too much, then continue to do what you are doing. Your body will start burning fat again once it adjust to your new weight. Also remember to take a day off once in awhile. Once a week is best. Don’t deprive yourself either. Yesterday, my son brought in this huge box of donuts. Yes, I ate one. I am not going to gain a pound for it, I just made sure that was the only one I ate and I didn’t splurge on anything else. I did skip my afternoon first meal of the day I was suppose to have. That wasn’t smart. It made it hard to eat sensibly at dinner. I had to force myself to eat the right amounts.
The donuts are still there today, but you know what? They really weren’t all that good. Today I will do my fasting as I have been doing and eat right. Tomorrow, I am going to have my splurge day for the week. Even if donuts are still there, I don’t think I want one. Maybe a piece of hot peach cobbler would be good though.
Remember, it took a long time to build our weight to where it is now, it will take a while to lose it all too.Tags: weight loss stalls, weight loss stops, hot peach cobbler
I knew it. The holidays would be coming and the weight would start increasing. We have birthday after birthday starting the first of August until the first of February. By the time my birthday comes in January, I am sick of cake. I really just want to forget it anymore. Being a year older doesn’t bother me, but the weight gain does.
I am making my New Years Resolution early this year. In fact, I am starting it tomorrow. It’s back to the weight lifting and the treadmill. Why haven’t I been doing this all along, I really don’t know. I had been doing it very consistently until summer got here. Then we are so busy with put out of door chores and activities that I just let taking care of myself fall to the side.
It’s cold outside now. Walking isn’t as enticing, but when the roads are dry and not icy, I will still take my dog for a walk. He is only 2 and still needs his daily exercise too. He is also over weight. So the walk will be good for both of us.
I fixed my scale, it only needed a new double A battery. Now its telling me things I don’t want to know. I am spending my Sunday late night writing this article so I can put on an exercise program to work out with my grandchildren before sending them to school tomorrow. They love it when I do that. We do simple programs. It’s good for them too.
The toughest thing I face when I diet is watching my husband eat and eat and eat. He is over weight too. Not too bad. He knows it, but it seems like a man doesn’t worry about it like a woman does. I don’t like having a belly. Maybe because it reminds me of when I was pregnant. I was proud of it then, but not now.
I will get it under control again. Exercise and eating right will do it. Cutting back on portions but not cutting out foods. Do you know that you can even eat ice cream when on a diet? Just eat a very small portion. I have these little glass bowls that maybe hold a half cup. I use one of them when eating ice cream. I fill that little dish up. Believe it or not, that little half cup of ice cream satisfies me. If I took a cereal bowl and only put a half cup of ice cream in it, it would look empty. I would eat the ice cream in only one or two bites and feel dissatisfied. The size of the dish means a lot. The bigger the dish you use at dinner, the more you will eat. Your dish has to look full to satisfy you.
Holidays are diet killers, but we can get through them. Portion control is a lot of it. Thanksgiving is this Thursday. I am cooking it. I do plan on eating it too. It won’t be difficult to fill up my plate. So many different things to put on it. I will do my best to eat a lot of Turkey, a small amount of mashed potatoes and gravy. I do think sweet potatoes are good for you as is the Brussels Sprouts. I will avoid the corn, don’t need it and will eat only one roll. Oh, and do not forget the dressing. Again, only a small amount. When it comes to the pumpkin and chocolate pies, well, that will be my problem. I am making no promises there other than no more than one piece each.
Happy Holidays everyone. We have lots more coming. Hope I can get through it.Tags: weight lifting, small portion, weight gain, ice cream satisfies, new years resolution, ice cream
When I get up in the early hours, first thing I do as I am dressing for the day is step on my scale. The truth hits me day after day. It can be good or bad. Depends on how good or bad I have been at following my own advice.
It gets discouraging if the scale doesn’t move in the directions you are wanting it to or if you never see any difference in your body appearance. Even if the scale is going down, if you continue to see rolls of fat on your stomach area, you aren’t going to feel good about yourself. How do you burn fat that is so stubborn? Seems like your face thins down, your arms and legs get thinner, but your stomach is still fat.
The fact that your weight is going down and you can see some results is good. You most likely are also feeling better and maybe getting a little more active as you lose the weight.
If you are not seeing changes or if your clothing isn’t feeling like it’s getting looser, then you aren’t going to feel like continuing your diet to burn fat. You have been working hard at it, sticking to your routine of exercise and avoiding the bad foods, but you still feel fat.
This is a very discouraging time but, if you can pull through it without giving up, you are still well on your way to a better you. You will burn fat off those stubborn areas if you keep it up. If you are feeling discouraged, go ahead and splurge a little. Eat some desert or something else you have been craving. Just don’t over eat really bad. Even if you do, tomorrow your metabolism will be speeding a bit faster. If you return to your diet type eating, you will burn a lot of calories without trying. Your energy level could be much higher too. A diet day after a splurge day could be really good to do.
Don’t throw in the towel and call it quits. If you aren’t losing weight, you may need to re-evaluate your diet and see where you could be going wrong. If you don’t figure out what it is you aren’t doing right, you will end up giving up like a lot of people do.
When dieting, remember, those pounds didn’t appear in only a few days, or even a few months. It usually takes years of overeating unless you aren’t very overweight. Then it’s good you have started to try and lose before you get to far over weight.
Remember your goals. They are very important. But remember we are all human too and will make mistakes. You will have days that you simply just have to eat something that you typically do not allow yourself. As I said before, go ahead and eat. Just get back on your diet routine the next day. If you continue to eat what you want for a number of days, that isn’t as good, but you can still get back on your diet. You may feel a little disappointed in yourself, but you will feel better once you see the results start up again. Sometimes it takes a little back sliding to get up and be motivated again.
You are not alone in this. There’s a world full of people having the same weight issues you are. Keep motivated and you will earn the final reward, a more fit and leaner you.

Have you ever listened to how people talk about the overweight people? How they criticized them without really even knowing them. I hear remarks sometimes when I am out to eat. Maybe a person who is over weight is sitting in one of the booths eating an ice cream sundae. Remarks like, “that’s the last thing they need. “ Why is an overweight person looked at as they should not let anything sweet pass through their lips. If they are eating french fries, hearing things like, “now I see why they are fat.” It makes me wonder what people could be saying about me even though I am just a few pounds over weight. Why do we judge people so harshly.
It does encourage me to loose weight and learn how to burn fat instead of watching it form on my figure as I grow older. People who are highly overweight sometimes don’t really understand what a proper diet consist of. Maybe their parents were the same way and it is a life style they accepted. Or it could be they have no choice.
Being over weight is no fun. Even extremely overweight people may be able to lessen their weight by adding just a daily walk to their routine. Please start off slow and only a short while. Most likely it will be hard on you and could be hard on your heart to try and do too much to start with. A lot of times, everything a person eats goes to the hips, or it feels that way because they aren’t active enough to burn fat.
Sometimes just getting up out of a chair can become hard for some. If you are letting yourself fall victim to not being able to do stuff to burn off the fat, then you are also shortening your life. Your heart needs some activity. You need to find someway to push yourself if at all possible.
It is wrong to label people. I totally disagree with just seeing someone and labeling them. I do know some overweight people that I would like to get to take walks and try and help them because I do know the circumstances a bit more.
Most people who are overweight don’t want to be. It happened to them while they weren’t really paying a lot of attention to things, maybe depressed, sick and unable to care for themselves. Or when they were young and just grew up that way. There are so many reasons for being overweight other than just over eating. A lot of people who are overweight don’t really eat that much.
To burn fat, you need to move. Do anything you can to get started. If it’s just walking out to the mailbox and back, that may be more than the usual amount of exercise you get. There are exercises you can do in a chair too that may get you started. Just doing cheer type movements with your arms would be good.
I know all of this can be difficult. If any of it is possible, you could burn fat, and have a better quality of life. Don’t worry about trying to be a size 10 someday. It’s not all that it’s made out to be. Take one step at a time. Make goals you can meet, trying to get to a size 10 could be more discouraging than helpful.
I want everyone to live a long healthy life. Being overweight takes a lot away from life. Many may never be able to obtain a weight loss. Sometimes you just have to learn to live with what God has given you and we are also told not to judge others.Tags: cheer type movements, loose weight, overweight person, overweight people, ice cream sundae, long healthy life, weight loss
