People are gaining weight. Many honestly do not know why. Do they have a low metabolism? Is it in their genes? These are excuses people use at times because they really don’t understand what they need to eat more of or less of. Or is it the foods in the eat less of group are too good and can not be passed up?
I hate the way people view over weight people. I agree there is something maybe they could do to help themselves, but what is it? Every person has different needs and reasons for being over or even underweight.
Many overweight people don’t eat that much. If their metabolism is slow, you won’t burn the calories you take in very fast. The end result is it gets stored as fat and shows up on your hips or stomach. Overweight people have a harder time performing many activities that could help them burn more calories.
There are also medical reasons some are overweight. Sometimes certain medications will cause a weight gain. This is something only their doctor can help them with and possibly there is nothing they can do.
Many people could be helped by adding the so called fat burning foods to their diet. These foods fall into the food groups of whole grains, lean protein, lots of fruits and vegetables along with drinking eight glasses of water during the day. Adding a little flavor to your water may help you meet that goal.
Citrus fruits are very good for you. They contain vitamin C which burns fat. So eating more citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits are healthy and good for burning fat. Other fruits are also good for you. I love applesauce. Applesauce is full of pectin and it attacks fat. Didn’t your mother always tell you to eat an apple a day to keep the doctor away? Well, it seems there is some truth in that saying.
Watching the fat you are adding to your diet, such as the oils you cook in is important too. Using oils like canola oil, olive oil, soybean and garlic oil can help you burn fat. Just stay away from the saturated fats and the trans fats. The fats that are liquefied, may contain omega 3 which is a fatty acid we have all been hearing about. These good fats may help trim fat off your waist.
Many times people get confused with all that we read on what is healthy and what isn’t. We start eliminating certain types of foods and adding others. With the high cholesterol problem that many people have, they cut back on red meat. If you are putting less meat on the table, what are you replacing it with? Most are adding more potatoes, breads, noodles and other fillers. How many are actually putting more vegetables and fruits on the table? There are some, but not many.
When you go out to eat. What do you get served? Most places start you off with a basket of rolls. They are delicious but do we really need to sit and fill up on rolls before dinner? Then comes the salad. Most have croutons on them now. They are delicious too. Next they serve the meal. A piece of meat, steak, chicken tenders or roast beef with gravy, whatever it is you like. If you didn’t order a salad, you most likely will get some type of vegetable. Then there’s usually a potato of some sort. So we fill up on a baked potatoes, fries and rolls. No fruit unless you again give up a side and who does. Our dinners at home aren’t really much better. We have our meat, potato, vegetable, hopefully now applesauce, and a couple slices of butter bread.
So why are we getting fat? If it’s not from medications we are taking, it’s from the wrong foods we are eating. Take a look at what you eat for dinner tonight. Is there something maybe you should be doing different?
